Use of evaluation results to bring family planning to the last mile

30 Sep 2020

This World Contraception Day 2020 (26 September) marked two years since the release of the Mid-Term Evaluation of the UNFPA Supplies Programme. The purpose of this mid-term evaluation was to assess the progress made in the implementation of the UNFPA Supplies programme from 2013 to 2017. The report examines the contribution of UNFPA Supplies to improving results in key areas of reproductive health and family planning, including access to modern contraceptives and reproductive health commodities.

On this occasion, UNFPA Evaluation Office released five videos from UNFPA offices in Cameroon, Haiti, Lao PDR, Asia Pacific Regional Office and the global UNFPA Supplies programme. In these videos UNFPA staff share how the evaluation’s findings and recommendations have informed the Supplies programme – its design and implementation - at global, regional and country levels.

The videos specifically capture the use of evaluation results to improve forecasting and planning of family planning commodities, better supply chain management and prepositioning of supplies, helping UNFPA country and regional offices to reach the last mile. At the global level, the evaluation results have informed the design and implementation of the third phase of the UNFPA Supplies programme, bringing a stronger focus to human rights based approach to family planning.
