Lebanon

Lebanon continues to grapple with an increasingly complex humanitarian situation, exacerbated by the escalation of hostilities in October 2024. The scale of damage, and of people displaced and returning to their homes in conflict-affected areas, means that new and urgent needs continue to unfold, amid ongoing insecurity and access restrictions.

The destruction of hospitals and health facilities has left many women and girls, including an estimated 14,000 pregnant women, without access to basic services, including healthcare. Protection services have also been disrupted as the current context exacerbates preexisting risks for women and girls, and psychological distress and gender-based violence increase. Restoring these vital lifelines is critical to ensuring that women and girls can recover and thrive.

UNFPA’s priority is to reestablish reproductive health and protection services for women and girls who have returned to their communities, for those who remain in collective shelters, for host communities and for those who stayed in hard-to-reach areas throughout the conflict, by providing support to primary healthcare centres, mobile medical units and safe spaces.
