UNFPA Cameroon Situation Report - January 2025

The humanitarian situation in Cameroon remains critical, with escalating violence in crisis-affected regions, including attacks by non-state armed groups, intercommunal tensions, and violent protests over land disputes. Insecurity has led to displacement, human rights violations, and restricted access to essential services, disproportionately affecting women and girls. Many face heightened risks of gender-based violence (GBV) and struggle to access sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care in an environment where health systems are under strain.

In response, UNFPA has reached thousands of people with lifesaving SRH and GBV services. Mobile clinics and supported health facilities have provided maternal healthcare, family planning, and emergency obstetric care, while Women and Girls’ Safe Spaces have offered protection, psychosocial support, and livelihood activities. Dignity kits, baby boxes, and clinical care for rape survivors have also been distributed to those in need. Coordination efforts continue to improve response mechanisms, ensuring better protection and healthcare access for affected populations.

Despite these efforts, funding gaps threaten the continuity and expansion of lifesaving services. UNFPA has secured only 35 per cent of its required humanitarian funding for 2025, leaving critical gaps in SRH and GBV interventions. Without urgent financial support, the most vulnerable women and girls will face even greater barriers to accessing essential healthcare and protection. Increased funding is crucial to sustain and scale up the response in Cameroon’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
