There has been an escalation of hostilities across Lebanon in September. On 17 and 18 September, simultaneous explosions of pagers and two-way radios belonging to Hezbollah, injured more than 3,000 people and killed at least 37 people, overwhelming already stretched medical services. On 23 September, Israel significantly intensified bombardment of Lebanon following the onset of hostilities in the South of the country since October 2023. Nearly 600 people have been killed, including 94 women and 50 children.

In recent days, at least 90,530 people have been newly displaced, bringing the total number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Lebanon to nearly 200,000. Among them are an estimated 56,620 women of reproductive age and 16,160 adolescent girls. Of the displaced, approximately 2,345 women are currently pregnant, with 260 expected to give birth within the next month. Around 73,000 newly displaced individuals have sought refuge in 549 collective shelters across the country.

UNFPA is prioritizing the urgent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and protection needs of displaced populations across Lebanon. To support those affected, 8,000 dignity kits are being distributed through local partners in shelters across Beirut, Beqaa, South, North, and Mount Lebanon. Along with the kits, psychological first-aid is being provided, and information on GBV, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), and available services is being disseminated. UNFPA has also procured 45 Inter-Agency Reproductive Health (IARH) kits to ensure safe deliveries, manage obstetric complications, and offer clinical management of rape services. Support continues through 7 mobile medical units reaching affected communities, 29 women and girls’ safe spaces, and 11 primary healthcare centers throughout Lebanon.
