Resource date: Apr 2022

Author: UNFPA Ethiopia

EN

More than 25 million people across Ethiopia are estimated to be in need of humanitarian assistance. About 4.2 million of them are internally displaced due to conflict, climate-related shocks, disease outbreaks and the socioeconomic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Conflict and displacement in the north has left more than 9 million people in need in Afar, Amhara and Tigray regions, and severe drought is already affecting 6.8 million people across the eastern and southern parts of the country.

UNFPA and its partners are providing sexual and reproductive health services including midwifery, medical supplies, and awareness-raising activities. To address gender-based violence, UNFPA is supporting safe spaces and one-stop centers and shelters, with focus on women, girls and young people. Services include counselling, risk mitigation and awareness-raising, and provision of Dignity Kits to women and girls.
