The Central African Republic has over 600,000 internally displaced persons, many of whom are women and girls facing extreme conditions and heightened risks of gender-based violence (GBV). UNFPA and its partners are responding by providing essential sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, protection, and awareness campaigns to support those affected.

In December 2024, UNFPA reached 17,033 individuals through SRH services and GBV prevention, mitigation, and response activities, with 71% being women and girls. During the 16 Days of Activism campaign, 686 dignity kits were distributed to vulnerable women and girls in various locations. Additionally, 8,964 women and girls benefited from empowerment and life skills training at safe spaces, and financial support was provided for income-generating activities and literacy programs. Psychosocial support services were also provided to 1,402 at-risk women and girls.

GBV remains a critical issue in CAR, with over 22% of survivors being children and adolescents, and socio-economic reintegration for survivors being particularly underfunded. The GBV Area of Responsibility (AoR) in CAR intensified efforts to address GBV in December 2024. They conducted training sessions for care of child and adolescent survivors of sexual violence and women’s and girls’ empowerment approaches, and provided GBV Pocket Guide Training. Additionally, a donor conference was held to present the 2024–2028 National Action Plan against conflict-related sexual violence, securing financial and technical support for priority actions.
