Donor Rankings, 2023

21st Core Contributions
17th Non Core Contributions
20th Overall Contributions

Donor rankings include UN-to-UN transfers, which are UNFPA's top source of revenue overall.

Spain is a valuable partner to UNFPA, with its commitment to achieving gender equality and advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights on the global stage.

In 2023, Spain became one of UNFPA’s top 20 donors for the first time. Spain’s vital support for core resources enables UNFPA to be present before, during and after crises, and to safeguard the health and rights of women and girls.

As the sole funder of UNFPA’s “WeDecide” programme, Spain is a leader in ensuring disability rights and inclusion. The programme focuses on empowering women and young people with disabilities to exercise their sexual and reproductive health and rights, and to live free from violence and discrimination. Spain is also UNFPA’s 12th largest humanitarian donor, supporting life-saving interventions in countries including Ukraine, Afghanistan, Palestine and Venezuela. Spain’s contributions to the Humanitarian Thematic Fund allows UNFPA to respond swiftly and flexibly to emerging crises.

Key areas of support from Spain include UNFPA’s Supplies Partnership, efforts to end female genital mutilation, projects that support sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence prevention in Venezuela, for example, programmes to improve economic empowerment opportunities and the social integration of women in Morocco and Costa Rica, as well as projects to promote comprehensive sexuality education in Ethiopia and Colombia (‘Skills4Life’).
