Despite steady economic growth, rich cultural and biological diversity and a strong tourist industry, almost half of Kenya’s people live in poverty. Addressing the country’s rapid population growth – close to 3 per cent per year -- is seen as key to sustainable development, as outlined in the national planning strategy known as Kenya Vision 2030.
