Strategy for leveraging the benefits of responsible and ethical generative artificial intelligence while minimizing risks
The rapid advancements in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) hold immense potential to accelerate the delivery of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This pioneering strategy provides a framework for leveraging the benefits of responsible and ethical GenAI in evaluation while minimizing risks. In particular, the strategy seeks to harness ethical and responsible GenAI use in evaluation, for greater efficiency, effectiveness, and timeliness in evaluations. It also seeks to build capacity for ethical GenAI use in evaluation, through global partnerships and advocacy, especially in the Global South.
The strategy draws on the assessment of GenAI use cases in evaluation, and presents an implementation plan for GenAI-powered evaluation. It emphasizes a phased approach to digital transformation in evaluation, development of custom GenAI solutions for evaluation, and ensuring sustainability of GenAI-powered evaluation efforts.
This strategy aligns with the United Nations 2.0 framework, the UNFPA strategic plan 2022-2025, the UNFPA evaluation policy, and the UNFPA evaluation strategy, prioritizing innovation, digitalization and greater use of evidence for decision-making and acceleration.
